Pulp alley Campaign
I realized the last one read too much like a battle report so I’m going to start playing the games and writing story fluff to what happened, rather than the John madden play by play. However this takes a lot longer and this is only 2 turns out of 6. The “badguy” group is a Corporate VP his trophy wife, two middle managers and some corporate socialites. Writing in this style means that the team wont have realized they are an opposing force... except (spoiler alert) Scarlett meeting the Handsome middle manager who is also trying to get the plot point information off the data terminal.
The party that the heiress Beatrice Martin was hosting was at the Rockhurst Country Club in Chester hills. This place was a playground for the wealthy.
Once the teams speeder landed, they were amazed by the greenery atop the building. Multiple building surrounded the lake, and party area.
The DJ was already pumping out the music and crowds of socialites and debutants were gathered.
Vector checked on the team. Scarlett was gorgeous in the outfit she picked,but looked mildly uncomfortable in it. He looked away before anyone could catch him checking her out. Nadiya seemed like she was used to the finery and Jason seemed cool as a cucumber. Vector himself was nervous not to be packing any heat in case things went south but he was assured by Sgt Basile that no one would risk causing a stir at this party.
Hosting the shindig was the Billionaire Heiress, who was a prominent And wealthy civic leader. Recently a series of unexplained plant accidents, and plane crashes have forced many of her companies stock to take a dive. The cyberspace rumors are flying that she is being targeted by “the Spectre” an insidious person or force looking to take over NHC.
In addition to Beatrice also in attendance was Leira Williams, the renowned Vidstagram influencer/reporter, the honorable Judge Joseph Krater, and Matilda Tierney, the shipping magnate.
Jason headed towards the DJ who he recognized. He remembered DJ Mami Chula (Maria) from a couple years back when he was at the academy. She was playing oldie dance remixes and her eyes when wide when she saw him. She rushed over and wrapped her arms around his neck. He gave her the skinny to watch out for anyone suspicious. Maria agreed she’d help if she noticed anything.
Scarlett and Nadiya head towards the shipping Magnate standing next to a tree. She seemed not to be enjoying herself until Scarlett and Nadiya appeared before her and handed her a champagne glass that Scarlett had procured from a passing waiter. They begin a conversation, but Matildas attention seemed to be focused on Nadiyas corded biceps. Scarlett smirked and excused herself for another drink. (1 plot point success out of 2 needed)
Scarlett headed past the bushes to the patio that housed a control panel that She could hack into. But a handsome Corporate Looking fellow seemed to be headed towards the same panel set. This was awkward. He made a introductory comment to break the ice that came across remarkable smooth. She was taken aback for a moment. He was very handsome. The reparte flowed and if an outside observer knew they were both looking to hack into the same database, you couldn’t tell as they both seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Vector looked a little out of place in his runners leather coat but that never bothered him. He walked steadily through the crowd keeping an eye on the heiress. He knew she was somewhere in the middle of this but couldn’t place it yet. Hopefully the info the team gathered could help put the pieces together. On who the Specter is and why they are causing so many problems around the city. Having the Heiress as an ally in this endeavor would be useful. He hoped to convince her but he needed concrete evidence his team was trying to procure, to get her to assist.
Jason spotted the Honorable Judge Joseph Krater at the Appetizer spread picking at the shrimp cocktails. He headed over to see if he could engage in conversation. Since they were both Law enforcement he didn’t think it would be too difficult to get Judge talking about the Spectre and what’s been going on in the city. Judge Joe barely acknowledged Jason as he continued to feast at the table before heading off to one of the side buildings which may have housed the men’s restroom. (Failed minor plot point)”
Nadiya continued to schmooze with Matilda getting her to discuss the current Spectre situation. She confirmed much activity is happening down in east Harbor. She has had to take extra precaution to make sure product and supply lines aren’t affected but even so, many shipments are being lost or stolen including a large percentage of Beatrices company shipments. Nadiya took Matildas contact info to reach out to her again. Matilda was happy to provide it and offered to keep Nadiya informed of any suspicious activity. Matilda seemed keen to leave, now that she had attended and stayed long enough to be seen. Saying goodbye, Nadiya turned and started walking towards the building where Judge Krater was remerging from. She clicked her comm bead and let Vector know that she had made the connection and Matilda had agreed to keep the team informed of any suspicious shipping activity. She linked up with Jason and the two of them headed to intercept the judge.
Vector walked directly up to the Heiress and she looked him over. She slightly nodded as she subtly approved of his look. Vector wasted no time in explaining how he was looking into the crime wave and the trying to understand its source. He alluded to the fact he thought she was being targeted and a wave of relieve washed over her eyes for just a moment. The DJs songs made it difficult to speak
At this moment a stately gentleman made his way over and made a quip about Vectors appearance, just snide enough to be an insult in that corporate way, but Vector let it roll past him not giving it any weight. This made the gentleman slightly off put as he was clearly used to people he felt below him, knowing their place. The two verbally sparred in front of Beatrice, Vector clearly holding his own in an arena that he wouldn’t be expected to excel in.
The Corporate executive seemed on his back feet for a moment before a socialite butted in awkwardly clearly attempting to help her boss. Vector ignored her completely and she awkwardly shuffled off. The Heiress laughed and slipped Vector a data stick. Then excused herself. Vectors heart sank thinking he had missed his chance until he saw it was a personal burner 2 way com so he could reach out to her. (Major plot point achieved)
Scarlett was deep into conversation as well with the dashing Corporate Manager. Their body language clearly different than both their actual intents. They both kept trying to find an excuse to stay put hoping the other would leave, but they were also both having fun talking to the their attractive opponent as well.
Nadiya and Jason both approach the Judge and faced with two of New Hope City’s finest, the Judge started chatting with them, they steered the conversation and finessed the required information out of him, as they asked questions that led him share more than the judge probably intended to although he seemed to be much looser after some drinks.(Plot point completed).
Having secured the Heiresses 2way comm, Vector moved towards the bushes behind the speaker system which Scarlett should have been just on the other side of. The Corporate executive wasn’t used to being defeated in social combat and followed Vector trying find a way to get the com from him. Vector just continues moving, paying him no mind. He emerged around the bush and his intimidating look cowed the corporate manager. Faced with the imposing presence of Vector, the corporate lackey slinked away abandoning his mission. Unfortunately the auction was starting and all the lights and electronics were taken over by the facility to start the show. This meant that the data hub was inaccessible and Scarlett missed the opportunity (plot point failed)
The teams Speeder jetted away and back towards the hot zone. On the Vid feed holo, the Vidstagram personality Leira Williams was saying great things about Eterna Corp and how they sponsored the auction prizes at the event with the Heiress. In the holo, the team recognized different members such as the executive and some of the socialites as they were gathered for a group picture. Looks like Eterna Corp was expert at the social media and making their Corp look good. The team shared info and realized that Eterna Corps involvement and actions were suspicious and needed to stay on the teams radar.
Nadiya directed the team to her favorite taqueria called “Mama Finas” as it was on the way back to their home sector called “The Pointes”. The whole team and especially Vector loved it , It reminded Vector of his family’s Carne Asada. He would be frequenting this place a lot he decided.
Major victory for the vigilantes
5-1, 3 vps for major and 1 vp for two minor plot points. Corp team got the plot point for the Vidstagram Influencer. And niether team got the downloadable info from the data hub .
After action Vigilantes gained another “restaurant” location so I opted Mama Fina’s Taqueria . And the win gave extra rep, influence and rewards which will be addressed in next story. (10 rep means “guardian” Unlocked. The fluff says gained locals support, investigation scenario now available, and a secret base awarded which will be Sinclair’s Pub.)
